Along





It is 297 km from Itanagar and is the headquarters of West Siang District. Aalo is situated in a picturesque valley at the confluence of Sipu and Siyom rivers against the backdrop of verdant hills and is one of the oldest towns with a strong educational setup. Some places of tourist attraction here are the Patum Bridge over Yomgo River, Museum and Donyi-Polo Dere. The place is also popular for trekking, hiking and angling 




Along town, the district HQ of West Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh. This entire valley is a picnic spot for the next 60 kms upstream. This is next to Yomgo or Siyom river. This river forms by the upstream by the joining of rivers "Yom" & "Go".Along the headquarter of West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh located at an altitude of 300 m from the sea level. Sitting amidst abundant natural surroundings, Along in Arunachal Pradesh is a small town with beautiful villages. Along Arunachal Pradesh is a most ideal place to spend the hot summer seasons. The picturesque surroundings laced with brilliant plantations makes Along in Arunachal one of the most perfect health resorts of India. The places one can visit at Along are the Mithun and Jersey Cross Breeding Farm at Kamaki 25 kms away from Along.
 

Along in Arunachal Pradesh is inhabited by Adi (Gallong) tribes. Adi has different sub tribe, which differ from each other’s like Adi (Gallong, Minyong, Pasi, Padam, Bori, and Bokar), if you visit far inside this places you will find all these tribes, but in Along you will find only Adi (Gallong) tribal people. Places of interest
  • Patum Bridge: The Patum Bridge is built over the Siyom or Yomgo River in Along. The 146 meter long cable bridge not only offers comfortable transport but is also a tourist attraction. This is a concrete bridge made for vehicle transportation. The view from the bridge where one can see the entire city is spectacular. The bridge glows in the night with lights and this makes it look amazing. During winters the snow clad mountains behind further add to its beauty.
  • River Rafting: Along is situated on the banks of two river ie., Sipu and Yomgo (Siyom). Both Siyom river and Sipu river runs through Along. Along is a valley and is extremely beautiful as far the scenic grandeur of this place is concerned with the Himalayan mountains surrounding it from all sides. Both Siyom river and Sipu river ultimately meets the Siang (Brahmaputra) which is one of the biggest rivers in Arunachal Pradesh.   • Hanging Bridges: The Hanging Bridges are a local bridge built on the Siang River at Along. They are made of cane and bamboo. These bridges was built by the local tribes to create a mode of transport amidst the hills.The 60 to 70 meters long bridge is a major connectivity for the tribes to other hilly areas.The bridge is worth watching and talks about the skills of the locals. Fishing is great fun in the waters near the bridge.Visitors enjoy the exciting walk on the bridge and the amazing valley view that they get while crossing it.
  • Mithun and Jersey Cross Breeding Farm: Mithun and Jersey Cross Breeding Farm are located at a distance of 25 km from Along. The farm is situated in the town of Kamaki and is visited by number of travellers, where the Mithun (cross breed of Wild Gaur and Buffalo) and the Jersey cows are cross bred.
  • Ramakrishna Ashram: This Ramakrishna Ashram runs a missionary school in Along, dedicated to the great Saint Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. The school has a peaceful and beautiful campus with transport facilities, hostel, library, computer lab and a canteen. The school aims at high level of spiritual learning along with excellence in education.
  • Malinithan: Malinithan is a recent archeological excavation in the Arunchal Pradesh. It has revealed many of the ruins of big temple from 14th century. This site is of total granite masterpieces. at a distance of 150 kilometers from Along, Malinithan is located.
  • Akashiganga: On the way to Along from Likabali, there exists a sacred place, about 25 km from the nearest railhead at Silapathar in Assam, hallowed as Akashiganga. The name Akashiganga is suggestive of a water channel in the hill. It is believed that the this place is associated with the legend narrated in the Kalika Purana (8th Century A.D.) that where the corpse of Sati (Parvati) was cut into pieces by Vishnu with his discus at the refusal of Siva to part away with it, her head fell somewhere near Akashiganga. the place is, therefore, held high in esteem as a pithasthan where the devoted Hindus on pilgrimage take a holy dip in a nearby water-pool formed by the falls. The place provide gilmmering view of Brahmaputra River.
  • Mechuka: Nestled in the Eastern Himalayas, Mechuka, the forbidden valley of Arunachal Pradesh is blessed with stunning beauty of blue hills, rivers and lush green forests.Among all the alluring places of Arunachal Pradesh , Mechuka valley is one such place where you can behold the exotic charm of the mother nature that can mesmerize you at the very first glance. Mechuka valley is the home to the people of the Memba tribe who are mostly believers of Buddhism. The prime attraction of Mechuka is an ancient Buddhist Monastery called Samten Yongcha of Mehayana sect. This 400 year old monastery is perched at a hilltop in the western part of Mechuka valley. This gompa or monastery is contemporary to the great Tawang monastery in the state. Mechuka is also embellished with numerous ancient statues. It is said that around five sanctuary ago, the teacher of the Sikh religion Guru Nanak once visited Mechuka and has done meditation at the origin of the river Yomgo. It is just 29 km away from the Indo-China international boundary and had played a pivotal role during the Indo-China war of 1962 and is one of those places which can be visited throughout the year. The weather of this place always remain pleasant due to its proximity to great Himalayan mountain ranges.
  • Darka Village: Darka Village is located near Along in the district of West Siang. Sipu River, Hiri River and Hisum River are some of the main rivers that flow within the village. The village is rich in agriculture and has dense forest, and is inhabited by Gola community. Tourists especially visit Darka Village during the Mopin festival, which is celebrated on a huge scale by the natives.
  • Kane Wildlife Sanctuary: Kane Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the West Siang District, which in vicinity of Along. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 55 sq. km and has diverse flora and fauna. Some of the animal species that can be seen in this sanctuary include deer, elephant and small cats. Travellers can easily reach Kane Wildlife Sanctuary by boarding buses or hiring taxis from Along. The best time to visit this sanctuary is between the months of October to April.
  • Bagra Village: This is a beautiful village to visit and it is intriguing to see the way this village is built. The ingenuous way of the tribes to build the houses on the slopes of the hills by using only cane and bamboo is a fascinating sight. The way of building the house without nails is also a marvelous art to see.
  • Panging: This village is the place where we find the largest Adi Minyong tribe settlement. Here we can see how cloth is woven by the women in the village. This is a very import place of angling and tourists enjoy coming here. It is located around 300 km from Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Tourists love to come here to enjoy angling on the river banks of Siang.
  • Orange Orchids: This is a beautiful sight that is seen in Along and these orchards with their rich fruits and delicious sights give the tourist a taste of the best. The salubrious climate coupled with the picturesque valleys in the background, give the tourist a moment to treasure forever.
  • Kamki Hydropower Dam: It is a place where tourists love to come and see how the whole plant works.

  • Donyi Polo Temple: Lying around 3 km from Pasighat, this sun and moon centre for worship was started by Talom Rukbo. It was started in the year 1989 and has organized many rallies and processions. There are more than 400 deres or centers in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and Donyi Polo Dere is one of them. It is a dream come true for the Adi community. It is an attempt to preserve culture and faith in the state. Donyi Poloism is an ancient religion that has its origins in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. It propagates non violence, sustenance of ecological balance and compassion. The centre aims at attaining equality by worshipping the Moon and the Sun. There is a prayer hall and a meditation room. There is a portrait of Donyi Mikmie Serine and Polo Migoe Serome that is installed in the main sanctum.
